Clams in the Cataplana

Clams in the Cataplana is one of the most typical recipes of fish in Portugal and Spain. It can be used as an appetizer or as a main dish.

For this recipe, you will need the following:



Ø 30 Cm Cataplana




2 Kg of clams

100 gr of chorizo sausage cut in slices

100 gr of ham cut in cubes

4 tomatoes cut in cubes

1 red skinless capsicum, cut in stripes

2 onions cut in thin slices

4 minced garlic cloves

200ml of white wine

2 laurel leaves

Olive oil


Minced parsley

Salt & Pepper


Put the onion, the garlic, the laurel leaves, the parsley and the olive oil to in the cataplana.

Once the ingredients gain color, gradually add the white wine, the capsicum, the tomato, the chorizo sausage and the ham.

After the ingredients boil, add the clams and a bit of piri-piri. Season with a little bit of salt and pepper.

Let it cook for 10-15 minutes.

Serve the clams as an appetizer.
